The Pamart Cup
Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Much Hadham 12th Sept 2015
Result won 129-92.5
This was the 2nd leg of the Pamart Cup, with Rye park holding a 26 shot lead from the first leg and hosting the 2nd leg they were clearly up for reclaiming the cup. Much Hadham struggled to arrive with a full team so lost 25% on 3 rinks. The match was tight and at the half way stage we only lead by 4 shots on the day, however with 26 shots in hand it would always be difficult for Much Hadham.
Tim Maynard's rink were our highest winning rink and out bowled their opponents winning 31-9, Tim's rink included Dave Fussell, Jean Matthews and debutant Mike Wilkins. Walter Richardson and Terry Mascot's rinks both had good wins, also we had 2 drawn rinks and one loss.
So we regained The Pamart Cup with an overall win of 72.5, unfortunately Much Hadham forgot to bring the cup with them and they will be handing the cup to us on Wednesday evening.

After the original date being cancelled due to adverse weather conditions all 21 bowlers were ready to take the green. This format is totally different to anything we play during the season, so this format always produces some great bowling. This year was no exception as we saw Colin Milner taking on Brian Metzner in the 3 Wood Cup Final, both bowlers deserved to reach the final as they bowled well all day. The Final was very exciting and Brian Metzner came away with a 6-2 victory over Colin Milner, Well done Brian. In the Plate final we saw last years winner Tim Maynard playing late entrant (thanks for stepping in) Richard Mansfield, Tim won this game 6-2. Finally the Spoon final Martin Mountford played Jean Matthews, Jean won this 8-0.
The Rose Bowl & Parkhill Trophies 28th August
On a wonderful sunny evening at Rye Park the crowds turned out to support both teams, with an estimated crowd of around 100 they were not disappointed. The Ladies match (The Rose Bowl) was a close affair, however our ladies just failed to win back this trophy going down 4-2 losing by 9 shots overall. The men however managed to retain the Parkhill Trophy with the same score 4-2 and winning by 9 shots overall. Both our men and ladies bowled very well. A great event and one that is looked forward to every year. Check out the Gallery for pictures.
We have reached the finals on 12 occasions in the club's history. Winning 6 times in starting in 1956 followed by 1964, 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1984. We were also runners up in 1960, 1961, 1969, 1970, 1985 and 2003.

The Presidents Gala - Sunday 23rd August
After the hottest day of the year, Sunday was one of the wettest. With the start delayed due to heavy rain and no one willing to step on to the green. However the rain eased and all 30 bowlers took their position on the green. The President made a short speech and off we went. After 3 matches Colin Milner's triples were leading and had to face Brian Holding's triples who were in second place so it made for a very interesting conclusion to the day. With the match still in the balance a draw was declared, so our winners were Sue Metzner, Jeff Hardcastle & Colin Milner with Brian Holding, Tony Lacey and Don Stevenson. Well to everybody who for some great bowling in trying conditions

Mens & Ladies County League Overview 2015
After a good season from our men we were just waiting for the the last few results. With only Northaw & Cuffley in a position to catch us they had to play 2 games this week. They managed a 3-3 draw against Rosedale on Monday 17th August. They also played Sele Farm on 20th August and they needed a 6-0 win to beat our points total by 1 point, which they managed to do. Overall a good season for HRPBC men, with a lot of new bowlers tasting the more competitive side of bowls and proving they are up to the challenge. Lets look forward to 2016.
Our ladies had their best season ever in the Ladies County League, so we are now looking forward to seeing our ladies move further up the table in 2016. Our new lady bowlers are improving all the time and there is no reason why they cannot beat their points total next season. Lets look forward to 2016.

Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Allenburys on Sunday May 17th
Our first friendly home game of the season against Allenburys saw our first home win. Terry Mascot also had a winning triple he was assisted by Linda Dunford & Jim Mason and they won 20-15, so well done to them.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Bengeo on Saturday May 16th
With Bengeo only fielding 6 players the game was somewhat different. Two of Rye Parks triples played against each other, so with only 2 matches taking place between both of the clubs. Richard Rogers was with Don Stevenson and Brian Metzner and they went down 26-13 with Johno bowling well to claim this win. Colin Milner in the other game bowled with Alan Bull and Ron Izzard they went down 25-9, Malcolm Bentley Bengeo's green keeper skipped his triples well with lots of local knowledge.

President v Captain Sunday 26th April
With over 50% of the club members taking part in our first home game of the season and with 2 of our new recruits taking place (Tony Andrews & Peter Hayden), the future looks good for Hoddesdon & Rye Park Bowling Club. This fixture is normally bowled in mid July, however we decided that it should be the curtain raiser for the new season ahead, and what a success it was. The President and Captain arrange a lovely tea for after the game which everybody appreciated even the Strawberry Flan.
The match was always a tight affair with lots of good bowling from both the Presidents team and the Captains team. With the Presidents team winning on 3 rinks and the Captains team only winning on 1 rink, the Presidents team ended up winners by 83-77.
Just missing out on opening game.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park v Aston
Result at Aston 62-80, Saturday 25th April
Our first game of the season at Aston was very hard work for our bowlers. The green was very heavy and caught a few of our bowlers out early on, however the team performed well but Aston came out on top this year. We had only one winning rink and that was captain Richard Rogers winning by 14-13, he was bowling with Toni Lacey and Dave Lofthouse, so well done to them.

However all the praise needs to go to Colin Milner who was playing the last end and needed 2 shots to win the match for EHBA and he drew 2 great woods to win the match. We lost our final game of the season, unfortunately the scores have not been passed on to me, however I do know that everybody had a great afternoon.
The Haward Cup Final (Friday 26th September)
Tim Maynard added the Haward Cup to his list of wins this season. In a match full of quality bowling Tim beat Dave Fussell 2-0. The first set of 9 ends was comfortably by Tim, however the second was a close affair with 9 singles with Tim winning 5-4. Well done to both players in a very entertaining final.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 104-56 Stevenage Town (Sept 20th)
In our penultimate game of the season we came good. The annual cup game played for against Stevenage Town was won by us, we started 16 shots behind after the first leg, but today we had all 4 rinks winning. With Walter Richardson and Tim Maynard's rink both winning by 18 shots it went to number of ends won and for second time this season Tim misses out. So Walter Richardson's rink won by 33-15 taking the highest winning rink prize, he was assisted by Ron Izzard, John Stevenson and Frank Watson who stepped in at the last minute. Tim's rink won by 31-13 he was assisted by Gloria Hardy, Terry Wilson and Jim Mason.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 108-108 Buntingford (Sept 14th)
A lovely afternoon was had by all . The match was changed from 5 mixed triples to 6. With everybody arriving on time we were able to start 10 minutes early. The match was a close affair all the way through. We managed to win in 3 games and also lose 3, after the games were complete the scores were totalled and a draw was declared 108 each, a nice honourably draw. Bob Hayter had our highest winning triples he was assisted by Tony Lacey who bowled his best game for the club so far , also in the triples was the Ladies Captain Marion Smith, they managed a 33-14 win. Other winning rinks were Gloria Hardy, Jim Mason and John Matthews winning 19-11, Ron Izzard won 21-18 he was assisted by Don Stevenson and Linda Dunford. Well done everybody.

Well Done to everybody who took part.
FINALS DAY Saturday 6th September
The day started early, in fact Tim Maynard arrived at 7.30am: other members started to arrive around 8am. We all waited for the green keeper to finish cutting the green in readiness for a full days bowling. The green keeper left at around 8.20am and the rinks were prepared for all the finalists. John Stevenson said a few words before the first match started. We had 10 finals played today and some bowlers had multiple games to play, I'm pleased to say we got through them all on time. The 2 Fixed Jack games were both very close affairs, the Men's 2 wood final went to an extra end. We had 1st year bowlers playing and experienced bowlers all competing. Well done to everybody who bowled, marked, turned over the scoreboards, volunteers and umpired - without you the finals would not have been a success. After the bowling we had a quick presentation, all the photos are in the "Gallery". The evening finished with a great BBQ, cooked by our resident BBQ King Mr Mountford, well done. Hoddesdon & Rye Park 121-112 Much Hadham (Aug 31st)
The Pamart Cup
With Hoddesdon & Rye Park 20 shots behind after the first leg of the Pamart Cup we were hoping for a better outcome. However with 3 rinks winning and 3 losing it was just to be to much to pull back. At the half way stage we were only 11 shots behind, we did rally and after approx 17 ends we were 22 shots up so a net lead of 2, but a strong finish by Much Hadham saw them finish strongly and take the cup back to Much Hadham.
Colin Milner had our highest winning rink with Les Austin, Jim Mason and Gloria Hardy winning 30-10, Bob Hayter's rink won 24-14 he was assisted by Ann Mountford, Alice Richardson and Alan Blackwell, Dave Fussell also had a win and he was joined by Ron Izzard, Peter Francis and Jean Matthews winning 25-16. I'm confident that Much Hadham are only looking after the trophy for one year.
Result - The Rose Bowl & The Park Hill Trophy (Aug 29th)
The Rose Bowl is played annually between Rye Park & Rosehill Ladies.
The Park Hill Trophy is played annually between Rye Park & Rosehill Men. The format for both competitions is the same: one pair, one triple and one rink of Ladies and Gents. The scoring is 1 point for a win, or if a match is drawn half a point is awarded. However if the match is level at one and a half points each, the match will be decided on shot difference, if this is still level one extra end will be bowled, the teams that play the extra end are decided at the start of competition by drawing of scorecards.
The Rose Bowl was won by Rosehill 2-1. Gloria Hardy & Ann Mountford won their pairs 29-10, a great win for our ladies. The ladies triples was skipped by Chris Miles with Alice Richardson and Jean Moy, they lost 15-10, a close game but dropping a 3 on the 18th end, this made the score look worse than it was. The ladies rink was skipped by Jean Matthews who lost to a very strong Rosehill ladies rink, Jean had Shirley Ellis, Toni Lacey and Linda Dunford with her, going down 9-24.
The Park Hill Trophy was won by Rye Park 2-1, Alan Blackwell & Brian Holding put on a great performance but went down 16-17 in this very close match. The Men's triples was skipped by Colin Milner he had a great win 20-13, Colin was assisted by Dave Fussell and John Stevenson all 3 bowlers had great games. The Men's rink also had a great win 21-15, this was skipped by Bob Hayter assisted by Richard Rogers, Don Stevenson and Walter Richardson, the team all bowled well, This was also a close game but our men picked up two 4's in the last 4 ends to clinch the win for Rye Park.
Well done to all the bowlers who bowled, also thanks to everybody who turned out to support us. Thanks to all the bowlers who nominated for this match, as you can appreciate it is not easy just picking 9 men and 9 ladies so thank you.
Den's Gala (Aug 24th)
A great day see the video link below for highlights, the winners on the day were Alan Blackwell, Ann Mountford and Don Stevenson, well done
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 90-55 Durants Park BC (Aug 23rd)
We welcomed today Durants Park from Enfield. Durants Park use to be one of the strongest clubs in Tottenham & District during the 1980/90's but time has not been good for them, with a total membership of around only 20 they did well getting 12 to play today.
We had 3 winning triples today with a highest winning triple skipped by David Fussell assisted by David Lofthouse and Gloria Hardy their score was 28-9. Tim Maynard, Terry Eldridge and Toni Lacey also had good result winning by 30-11, and they only lost the highest winning triple on a countback.
Ladies match (August 19th)
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 37-34 Epping Bowls Club
Our ladies have struggled this season to fulfil their fixtures, this was mainly due to the number of Ladies bowlers in the club. However we did manage the play Epping this afternoon and came away with a win. Chris Miles leading her rink to a 21-13 win assisted by Ann Mountford and Shirley Ellis.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 62 - 78 Stevenage Town ( Aug 17th)
On a day that was made for bowling our 4 triples went down by 16 shots in the 1st leg of our challenge cup against Stevenage Town. The green was running faster than ours and it caught a few of our bowlers out. We had one winning triples that was Colin Milner's team he was assisted by Ann Mountford and Jim Mason they won by 21-10. We have a bit to do in the second leg on 20th September.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 89 - 116 EHBA (Aug 16th)
The Jack Goff Trpohy
40 men turn out today to play the for The Jack Goff Trophy, Jack was a member at HRPBC and also played for Standon & Puckeridge during his bowling years, Jack also represented EHBA on a number of occasions.
The match was played in good spirit. EHBA won well on 3 rinks which was enough to win this trophy for the first time of a few years. We had two winning rinks the best being Bob Hayter's rink winning 34-14, after being down at half way, 9-12, they certainly pick the right cups of tea. Bobs rink was Alan Bull, Dave Lofthouse and Peter Francis. Dave Fussell also won leaving it late to win 21-20 on the final end, Dave was assisted by Ron Wilson, Greg Dunford and Terry Eldridge. Photos from the day can be found in the Gallery headed "Jack Goff 2014"
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 70 v 33Hoddesdon Rosehill (Aug 13th)
After some confusion, with HRPBC having 3 rinks and Rosehill arriving with 2 rinks, Rye Park in Whites and Rosehill in Greys. The match was eventually played as 3 triples game, with Greg Dunford helping Rosehill out. Rye Park did come out on top, winning all 3 Triples. The 2 fixture Secretarys need to check their paperwork and make sure the correct number of bowlers arrive in the agreed dress code for next year. Apologies to all the HRPBC bowlers who turned out to play. We have received an apologies from Rosehill, the Captain from Rosehill e-mailed their fixture secretary asking him to notify us that they were short but he did not see the e-mail. Our highest winning triples were Linda Dunford, Shirley Ellis and skipper Jean Matthews 30-13.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 57 v 41 Bengeo (Aug 10th)
Today we did see Hurricane Bertha causing a delay to the match of the match by 45 minutes. At the original starting time the storm hit and we saw our green was completely covered in golf ball sized hale stones. However the sun came out and the game started with both captains agreeing to reduce the match to 14 ends. We had 3 winning rinks what a difference 24 hours makes. Well done to everybody for turning out in these amazing weather conditions. Our highest winning triple was skipped by Don Stevenson assisted Brian Barton & Greg Dunford in 14 ends they won 24-8.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 55 v 94 Allenburys (Aug 9th)
We were beat on all 5 rinks on a sunny afternoon, some bowlers were hoping for Hurricane Bertha to arrive but it didn't. Allenburys were just too good on the day.
Hoddesdon & Rye Park 71-95 Datchworth (Aug 3rd)
On a warm summers afternoon at Datchworth, our 4 rinks struggled with this very fast green. Only captain Colin Milner coped and won 24-21 he was assisted by Terry Wilson, Jim Mason and Alice Richardson.
The 3 Wood Challenge (Aug 2nd)
On a very warm afternoon and with showers predicted, 18 bowlers turned out to test their skills in this new challenge. After the first round of matches, 18 games, we were down to just 12. Well bowled to both our winners and commiserations to our runners up. Well done to all who took place.

Before the match started we held a minute's silence in memory of David Judd, a long serving member from Allenburys Bowls Club, who passed away this week. David will be sadly missed by all. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.
The weather was fantastic this weekend which caused the beers and ciders to flow, even the suntan lotion came out. Unfortunately we suffered another defeat, but I was told when you lose it's the taking part that counts. The match was played in front of a large crowd, all enjoying the bowls as well as the weather. We had just one winning rink, that skipped by Walter Richardson assisted by ladies Captain Marion Smith and John Matthews; they won by a score of 19-12. We will hopefully reverse the result in the return fixture on 9th August.
Hoddesdon and Rye Park 56 -66 Hertford Castle (May 16th
An excellent match played in the right spirit. Hertford Castle led the way from the start, HRPBC were always behind but we never gave up. By the 18th end we had reduced the deficit and in fact we actually went ahead by 3 shots. Then it all went wrong, Bob Hayter's rink dropped a 6 followed by Barry Osman's rink also dropping a 6, so with only 2 ends left the mountain was too high to climb. Well done Hertford Castle and good luck in the next round.
We had one winning rink 21-17 that was skipped Bob Hayter, and included Richard Rogers, John Stevenson and Don Stevenson. We had 3 bowlers making their debuts tonight - they were Don Stevenson, David Lofthouse and Graham Barker. Well done.

It was great to see non playing club members supporting us and members from Rosedale enjoying the lovely summer afternoon.
Result Mixed Match
