On Bob Hayter's rink this game went to and through, with some excellent last wood saves by Graham Thompson saw this score finished 20-24. Good Luck to Bishop Stortford in the next round.
EHBL Pairs 1st Round 14th May
Richard Rogers and John Stevenson moved into the 2nd round of the EHBL pairs with a good win over Dave Watson and Ralph Pedder. On a wet/cold night at Rye Park Richard and John proved to be to strong winning 23-15 with the Hertford pair conceding after 18 ends. Well Done.
Richard and John now face another home tie against either Neil Sharp from WGC or Dennis Sharp from Whit Hern, either way our boys will need to Sharper than Sharp to move forward.
EHBA Singles 1st Round 13th May
Bob Hayter v Bob Spence (Whit Hern) 10-21
Bob Hayter started poorly and never recovered from his poor start. Dropping a 4 then a 3 in the first two ends gave Bob Spence the start he was looking for. The rest of the game was tight but Bob Hayter had too much to do to pull this game back, Well done Mr Spence.
EHBA Officers Singles 1st Round 13th May
Colin Milner v Graham Penny (Much Hadham) 20-21
Last years Semi Finalist Colin Milner appeared to have this game in his pocket, however the game is never over until you have crossed the line. Colin was cruising along 18-10 up, but he let it slip away going down to Much Hadham's Capt Graham Penny 21-20
EHBA Pairs Preliminary Round 11th May
Terry Eldridge and Colin Milner pulled of a fantastic win at Hertford Castle in the EHBA Pairs. Playing against one of the strongest pairs at Hertford Castle Colin & Terry came away with a 16-13 victory, their opponents on the night were Vic Greenberg the 2014 EHBA Singles champion and Mick Howlett. They now at home in the next round and face B Stockwell from Ware B.C
EHBL Preliminary 6th May
Terry Eldridge 21 v 18 Richard Adams (Hertford Castle)
A great win for Terry over one of the County's top bowlers. The game was close early on with both players picking the up shots. After12 ends played the match was level, then Terry pulled away to lead by 19-12 and the game looked over for Richard. But with the never say die attitude from Richard he started to pull the deficit back, however Terry knuckled down with a couple of good ends to reach the 21 shot target. Well done Terry.
The 2015 season start see above
EHBA Finals at Ware BC (Sept 7th - Morning)
Champion of Champions Final
An early start for Bob Hayter in the EHBA Champion of Champions final. Bob received great support from members of Hoddesdon & Rye Park, which was much appreciated by Bob. Bob was playing a County/Middleton Cup Bowler from Buntingford, Mark Plume. The first part of the match was on an even keel with some great heads. Bob bowled extremely well however Mark pulled out some fantastic shots to win this game 21-14, well done Mark
The last finalist we had in the EHBA Champion of Champions was Alan Smart who went on to win this back in 1984, 30 years ago.
Officers Singles Final (Sept 7th- Afternoon)
The afternoon was very different: Bob was bowling in the EHBA Officers Singles final against last year's winner Ray Barwick from Northaw & Cuffley. Again Bob had fantastic support from a number of Hoddesdon & Rye Park members: they cheered every wood Bob bowled. This game was truly amazing. Initially Bob just could not find his weight, green or line and after 10 ends was losing 18-4. It looked all over for Bob. He decided that something needed to change, if his supporters were to have something to cheer about. So Bob brought the mat up and bowled a minimum length jack and turned the game around, picking up shots on a regular basis without any reply. Ray struggled with this length and did not score another shot. With the score at 18 all and Bob in the ascendancy, at the next end Bob was holding 2 shots. He then bowled the shot of the day by drawing a wood right up to the Jack. With Bob holding a match winning lie Ray, now under pressure, bowled his last wood short and Bob took the title. It just goes to show that ITS NEVER OVER UNTIL THE FAT LADY SINGS. Well done Bob for a great game, wInning 21-18.
The last winner from our club to win this trophy was Cyril Cornish in 1963, 51 years ago.
EHBA Finals Day

The last game of the season and a win. With Bob Hayter stuck in traffic and Richard Rogers making the dash over to Hertford to cover we came away with a rare win. Walter Richardson skipped our winning triples, assisted by Peter Francis and Alf McDonald winning 22-13, so our points total moved up. Our final game this season is at Hertford on Tuesday evening (Aug 26th), so let's hope we can finish with a win.

We suffered our second defeat in the EHBL Triples league, a strong performance by Stevenage. We need to get back out on the green and practice more.
Hoddesdon and Rye Park 56 -66 Hertford Castle (May 16th) Eversly
An excellent match played in the right spirit. Hertford Castle led the way from the start, HRPBC were always behind but we never gave up. By the 18th end we had reduced the deficit and in fact we actually went ahead by 3 shots. Then it all went wrong, Bob Hayter's rink dropped a 6 followed by Barry Osman's rink also dropping a 6, so with only 2 ends left the mountain was too high to climb. Well done Hertford Castle and good luck in the next round.
We had one winning rink 21-17 that was skipped Bob Hayter, and included Richard Rogers, John Stevenson and Don Stevenson. We had 3 bowlers making their debuts tonight - they were Don Stevenson, David Lofthouse and Graham Barker. Well done.
We would like to thank everybody who turned up to support us, hopefully we will win next time. Thanks again.
Ladies County Triples 3rd Round (May 15th)
This 3rd round game was played at home against another strong ladies triple from Whit Hern. The game started evenly with Whit Hern leading the way, after 7 ends the score was 6-13. Beryl Sambridge came in for Ann Mountford. Marion Smith, Gloria Hardy and Beryl had work to do to pull this back. Unfortunately Rosemary Moto, Eileen Newman and Chris Norman were to strong on the night, going through 13-24. Well done to Whit Hern and good luck in the next round.
EHBL Pairs 1st Round (May 12th)

EHBL Triples league (May 12th)
Hoddesdon and Rye Park 23-60 Bengeo = 0-6
We were out played tonight by Bengeo on both rinks, the rain fell all night long and Bengeo coped better than we did. So overall as a team we need to improve. Greg Dunford, Graham Barker and Bob Hayter went down 13-23 and Tony Parker, Don Stevenson and brother John went down 10-37. Mike Jones and Dave Kemp both skipped their rinks well, other Bengeo players were J Reeve, Brian Mansfield, Brian Ginn and Brian Cable.
EBHA Pairs 1st Round (9th May)
Bob Hayter and Dave Fussell move into the 2nd round EHBA Pairs with a 26-9 win over Northaw & Cuffley pair Ray Barwick and John Dowler.
A good close game that went to the last end with all to play for on both sides with Les Knight and Bob Piffers coming out on top but Richard said we won the drinking contest after the match. So Richard Rogers and John Stevenson lost 20-23 against this good team from Rosehill.
